How-To-Ride

About this site

Why did I start this site?

I was really sick of seeing bad advice being given to beginner riders and those looking to get into motorcycling. When it comes to a hobby like motorcycling, the quality of advice that you follow can mean the different between being safe and getting hurt. To a lesser extent, it can also decide whether you stick with riding or are scared off. I cringe whenever I see someone being told that a Super Sport is a fine bike to start on and I am scared whenever I hear that someone thinks that jeans, a t-shirt, sneakers, and a helmet is considered gear.

I am by no means an expert rider, nor do I claim to give perfect advice, but I do feel that I can safely help beginner riders out by sharing my knowledge and experience with them. I have always been very safety oriented, and this applies even more so to motorcycling.

What can I learn here?

What you can expect to take away from this site is a good understanding of what it takes to safely start out in the world of motorcycling. The emphasis will always be on safety and doing things the “right” way. I will always use the term “right” loosely because there are many “right” ways to do things. Everyone learns differently but the same underlying concepts will always apply. I will cover topics such as “Cost of ownership”, as well as “What is the right bike to start on?” I am hoping to go over every aspect of learning how to ride, but no ones perfect. If I miss something, feel free to shoot me an email and let me know!

Your site sounds pretty good. I guess everything I need to know is right here, huh?

Yes and no. My goal is to cover everything involved in learning how to ride, but that will only be from one point of view. My advice to you new and aspiring riders is to READ, READ, READ! There are many great books and websites out there with vast amounts of information on motorcycling. You should never stop reading. My site, or anyone else’s for that matter, should never be your one stop shop for knowledge. Learn all that you can here and then move on to your next source and hear what they have to say. Everyones opinions vary and it’s a great idea to hear more than one view point.
